Most Important Step
The most important step any of us will ever take is not the first step we take as a baby learning to walk. No, the most crucial step is the one we take when we make the decision to accept God’s free gift of salvation through His Son Jesus Christ.
First John 1:9 tells us what God will do when we acknowledge our need to be saved from our sins:
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness” (New King James Version).
Each of us is given the free choice:
To follow the world and our own sinful desires;
Or to follow the Lord and seek His will above our own.
We can’t do both. It’s one or the other.
Satan is the ruler of the world and he opposes the Lord God at every turn. If we follow God He supplies us with His strength and power to resist Satan and all his evil schemes.
It’s not pretty to follow Satan, but because he is the great deceiver, he paints a deceptively pretty picture. There is only one way we can see the truth and not be led astray. This one way is through Jesus Christ the Son of God. Jesus is The Way, The Truth, and The Life. In Him there is no darkness and no deception because He is The Light.
“For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life” (John 3:16, NKJV).
Jesus Christ gave His life for our sins when He was crucified on the cross. But He didn’t stay on the cross and He didn’t stay dead. Although He was buried He arose from the grave. Yes, He came back to life! Death could not hold Him. If we believe on Him and trust Him as our personal Lord and Savior we, too, will live forever with Him in heaven. He is coming again one of these days to receive all who belong to Him. Our earthly bodies may one day die but our souls will have eternal life.
The most important step we will ever make is making the decision to follow Christ. “If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
If you have never taken the all-important step to trust Christ as your Savior, we invite you, right now, to pray along these lines:
Dear God,
I admit that I am lost in my sins and cannot find my way without You. Please forgive me and cleanse me of all of my sins. I accept Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. I acknowledge He died for me and He arose again that I might have eternal life. Please show me each day how to be faithful and how to draw ever closer to You.
In Jesus’ Name, I pray. Amen.
If you prayed the above prayer, please let someone know.
It might be a friend or a loved one or a pastor of a church. By sharing the good news with another person you are welcoming that person to walk beside you and help you grow in your new commitment to Christ.
If you decide to contact us about your decision to follow Christ, we will gladly include you in our prayers. Your name will remain confidential.
