An Easter Poem
by
April Strauch

This months Guest Column contains an Easter Season poem by April Strauch. It
takes you on a journey from a chocolate cross in the Easter basket of a child to
an adult understanding of the true meaning of what Christ did for us on a not-
What The Cross Means
When I was just a little girl a cross represented to me
chocolate, bunnies and Easter baskets. How I was filled with glee.
I'd dig through the colored grass in my basket and pull out the treats with joy.
That was the only day we were allowed to eat candy for breakfast. Oh Boy!
Then as I grew older, things began to change.
A chocolate cross on Easter was still tasty, but thoughts in my head began to rearrange.
I still remember laying in bed one night telling my parents I wanted Jesus in my heart.
They explained how much He loved me and wanted to give me a brand new start.
They went on to say that Jesus died long ago so I would be forgiven of
my sins.
All I had to do now was ask Him into my heart by saying, Please come in.
Mom told me I had a new birthday, one that represented my new life in
the Lord.
That Jesus longed to get to know me as I daily prayed and read His Word.
This gift was given to all of us through the precious life of one man.
God, who came in the form of a babe, and lived 33 years on the land.
But His time in the physical form ended in one place we all know. The cross.
It is because of the sacrifice He made there that none of us need to be
lost.
Because God's story did not end there on that sad and mournful day.
After being crucified He rose again just as He did say.
Now won't you join me this season in telling others of His love.
Explain to those God puts in your path that that all hope comes from above.
This year as you see the cross remember childhood memories, yes.
But let the real truth of it's meaning soak into your life and give you
rest.
For in this world you will have trouble. God's Word tells us so.
But turmoil doesn't end there. When troubles come to the cross you must go.
For now as an adult I can tell you God's promises are tried and true.
For He's helped this child through both storms and joys, in all
circumstances He's brought me trough.
But no matter how old I get I must be reminded again and again.
Don't ever stop going back to the promises of the cross for it's there
that you will find the One, the Only True Friend.
