Biographies of Web Site Writers
A PLACE CALLED HOME:
Writer Dotty Moore and counselor husband Jim live in rural Stillwater amid the country hills of northeastern Pennsylvania where they both work at home. (This fact alone sparks many columns! And gives perspective to counseling, too.)
FAMILY:
The two became one on their wedding day in 1965, moving in 1975 to within a few miles from their present location. Grown-daughters April and Lori, and granddaughters Dallas, Lily, and Rayelle live not far away.
BIRTHPLACE:
Both Jim and Dotty were born in Armstrong County in western Pennsylvania and both graduated from the former East Brady Area High School in Clarion County.
LAY MINISTRY TEAM:
In 1987 Jim and Dotty Moore founded Christian Growth Ministries, Inc., a 501(c)3 non-profit, independent, non-denominational, lay, faith ministry whose mission is to take the Gospel of Christ to as broad an audience as the Lord provides. Under this umbrella the couple ministers through counseling, writing, speaking, and other avenues where the Lord leads.

Emmanuel Bible Chapel in Berwick, Pennsylvania
HOBBIES:
Jim and Dotty turn to the outdoors for hiking, photography, videography, and getting away from the stresses of “living at work.”

WRITING, EDITING, and
PUBLISHING BACKGROUND
Freelance Columnist:
For nearly 21 years
Dotty Moore wrote a popular
weekly inspirational
newspaper column for a secular daily newspaper, winning fourth place in the Amy Foundation Writing Awards national competition in 1985.
Religion Editor:
Dotty also served for nearly six years as religion editor of the newspaper that ran her column, Press Enterprise out of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania.
Additional Freelance Writing:
Other publication credits are Pathways To God; The Christian Writer; The (Shippensburg, PA) News-Chronicle; and The (Sweet Valley, PA) Suburban News.
Publishing:
In 2003 the Moores established Wings of Joy Publishers and together Dotty and Jim self-published “Joy…in the Morning Favorites,” a collection of selected “Joy…in the Morning” columns with a foreword written by Roger C. Palms, former editor of Billy Graham Evangelistic Association’s Decision magazine.
Speaking Engagements and Book Signings:
As a guest speaker and author, Dotty has been welcomed in churches and women’s groups in her home state; in New York State; in Maryland; and in the Grand Cayman Islands.
Education:
Dotty (maiden name Heffelfinger) attended Anderson College (now University) in Anderson, Indiana, and transferred to Shippensburg State College (now University) in Shippensburg, Pennsylvania, where she received a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education.
She attended Billy Graham Evangelistic Association’s Schools of Christian Writing in Toronto and Minneapolis; and Schools of Evangelism in Montreal and Denver.

MANAGEMENT BACKGROUND:
Christian Counselor:
Since 1987 Jim Moore has
maintained a small Christian
counseling practice specializing in individual, marriage, family, and sexual addictions counseling.
Administration, Management, and Web Design:
Jim’s earlier workplace background includes positions as a secondary education teacher, director of the largest single-shift day care center in America, health center administrator, corporate trainer, adjunct graduate school instructor, employee relations manager of a hospital, and computer assistant.
In 2003 Jim helped Dotty self-publish a collection of her writings in “Joy…in the Morning Favorites” by creating the cover and designing the layout for the book.
Jim is the Web master and designer for joyinthemorningetc.org.
Speaking Engagements:
Churches and men’s prayer breakfasts have welcomed Jim a number of times to fill in for a vacationing pastor or speak about the ministry of counseling.
Education:
Jim earned a Bachelor of Science degree in health education from Slippery Rock State College (now University) in Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania; a Master of Science degree in human services administration from College Misericordia in Dallas, Pennsylvania; and completed extensive post-graduate work in guidance and counseling from Shippensburg University in Pennsylvania and Frostburg University in Maryland.
He attended Billy Graham Evangelistic Association’s School of Christian Writing in Minneapolis; and Schools of Evangelism in Montreal and Denver.
